SEOUL --  LG Electronics will demonstrate its leadership in the production of large organic light emitting diode (OLED) panels by unveiling the world's first premium 88-inch OLED TV with a stunning 8K resolution display at an annual industrial exhibition this week in Germany.

Currently, premium OLED TVs feature a 4K resolution display, also known as ultra-high definition (UHD), which provides four times sharper images than the high definition display. LG's 8K display, which uses more than 33 million OLEDs, is about four times sharper than that of UHD.

LG said its new OLED TV will be showcased at Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), which opens on Friday. Unlike other 8K displays developed for professional use such as cinemas and outdoor signage, LG's TV is the first commercial model. The company vowed to maintain its leadership in the global premium TV market with its new product.
