LS Cable said Wednesday that the new plant would be built near its first plant for submarine cables in Donghae. Construction of the second plant to produce cables for high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC), a next-generation electric power technology to convert alternating current into high-voltage DC, will be completed in early 2021.
Initially, LS Cable had tried to build the plant abroad in line with a growing demand for high-voltage cables in Europe and Asia, but the company changed its mind to invest locally after city officials pledged various incentives.
LS Cable, which produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials, has been involved in a number of projects abroad. The company runs factories in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and India. In June last year, the company partnered with Indonesia's AG Group to set up a power cable joint venture near Jakarta.
