SEOUL -- LG Innotek, the electric component unit of South Korea's LG Group, has developed flexible lighting called "Nexlide High Definition (HD)" that emits bright and even light. It can be used for premium cars that require unique and high-end design concepts.

LG Innotek said in a statement on Wednesday that Nexlide HD is a lighting component that is made by attaching multiple LED packages to thin substrates. Nexlide HD is a hexagonal shape that curves smoothly like rubber and it can be used as a light source for exterior lamps.

"Nexlide-HD is an innovative part that will evolve vehicle lighting to a new level. We will continue to introduce products that can enhance the design, quality and stability of vehicle lighting," an unnamed LG Innotek official was quoted as saying.

Nexlide-HD emits "even light on five different sides," the company said, adding it has applied its optical design technology and LED package that spreads light by almost 180 degrees. It is difficult for regular LED packages to make a lamp in the form of a bend or a three-dimensional shape because light only comes out in a certain direction.

Nexlide-HD can produce different lighting in a variety of designs. In particular, it can be cut into thin pieces and combined like blocks to make floral designs. This is because it uses silicon materials to increase flexibility.
