"After having finished with administrative procedures and designs, construction will begin around September next year," Dobong District's head officer Lee Dong-jin said at a radio interview with Buddhist Broadcasting System (BBS). He predicted that about 2.5 million K-pop fans would visit K-pop Arena annually.
There are several iconic venues for K-pop concerts such as the Seoul Olympic Stadium in Seoul, but none is solely dedicated to music-related events.
Lee said that the K-pop Arena would be a 49-story complex to be built in Seoul's northernmost district of Dobong to house facilities such as a 19,300-seat concert hall, public recording studios and offices for entertainment companies. Policymakers have benchmarked Sage Gateshead, a concert venue in North East England that opened in 2004 to host concerts from a wide range of internationally famous artists.
