SEOUL -- Korean Air partnered with Kakao, a major web service company in South Korea, to provide more convenient services to passengers in the process of ticketing, paying, checking-in and boarding by using artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.

A memorandum of understanding, signed Thursday between Kakao and Korean Air, calls for the development of services that can provide new value to customers in various fields such as platform, membership, fintech, commerce, content and digital transformation.

They would push for business cooperation in the entertainment sector to provide an in-flight audio-video-on-demand (AVOD) system. In-flight entertainment includes services such as Internet browsing, text messaging and video games. Some game systems are networked to allow interactive playing by multiple passengers.

The two companies will discuss cooperation on commerce platforms and use AI technology to maximize the efficiency and productivity of the aviation industry.

"Based on our partnership with Kakao, we will use Kakao's superior platform and content in various areas such as Korean Air's customer service, ticket sales and fintech," Korean Air CEO Woo Ki-hong said.
"We will also create new business models through cooperation between an airline and an ICT (information communication technology) company."
