SEOUL -- In line with a global campaign to reduce plastic waste and promote the use of bioplastics, Peripera, a makeup brand in South Korea, has unveiled an eco-friendly cosmetic case for its popular shadow palette consisting of eight daily colors. This is the first use of "wood plastic" to develop a cosmetic container in South Korea.

Peripera said on Friday that the wood-plastic cosmetic container was the result of cooperation with SK Chemical and Daedong I&C, the producer of plastic containers for packing. Wood-plastic composites are produced by thoroughly mixing ground wood particles and thermoplastic resin. Chemical additives seem practically invisible.

SK Chemical's PETG was mixed with wood powder to realizes the feeling and texture of wood and complement weak parts, durability, water resistance with plastic's functionalities.

PETG is a glycol modified version of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is commonly used to manufacture water bottles. It is a semi-rigid material with good impact resistance, but it has a slightly softer surface which makes it prone to wear.

Peripera said SK Chemical's PETG applied in the cosmetic container is a safe material that does not cause the detection of Bisphenol A, an organic synthetic compound that is soluble in organic solvents, but poorly soluble in water.
