SEOUL -- "Double Patty," a film to be invested, produced and marketed by KT, a major telecom company in South Korea, will hit theaters at the end of this year, signaling the expansion of KT's original content from web dramas to offline theaters.

KT said that Double Patty directed by Paek Seung-hwan would be released through its online video service and platforms. "Based on KT Group's media platform capabilities, we will introduce more diverse original content to enhance the global competitiveness of K-content," said KT's new media business head Kim Hoon-bae.

Double Patty starring Bae Joo-hyun, known professionally as Irene who is the leader of Red Velvet, a five-member K-pop girl group, is a coming-of-age movie that follows young people on their journey of growth and development. Irene, 29, will play the role of an aspiring anchorwoman.

KT has prepared original video content using virtual reality technology to attract tech-savvy early adopter consumers. The company launched a mobile video content service called "Seezn" in November 2019 to provide high-quality content and high-definition images using 5G and artificial intelligence technologies.
