SEOUL -- To recharge the vive into music fans tired of a prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, BTS has dropped "Dynamite," a new disco-pop track which marked the band's first full-English song since its debut in 2013.

"We wanted to deliver messages of hope and support through song and dance performance which we are good at," Jin, a 27-year-old BTS member, said at an online press conference just before the release of Dynamite at 1:00 p.m. (0600 GMT) on August 21. "This is the song which we wish you to hear."

Jin said it was not easy recording the song in English but he was sure that Dynamite will offer a different atmosphere compared to previous songs.

BTS' leader RM said the new song was part of a "recharge" project. "We dearly wish that our song could recharge many people's batteries, even if only for a short moment," the 25-year-old rapper said. "We hope that Dynamite becomes your healing song."

Dynamite, a digital single, is an electric-synth disco track with full English lyrics. BTS with tens of millions of fans worldwide had some parts in its global hit songs written in English but it did not have any songs fully written in English. "We thought English lyrics matched the melody of Dynamite when we were recording a guide track," said V.

Although BTS members sang and danced to express hope in their new song, they confessed that the message was actually targeting themselves. "We were faced with a situation which no one had expected and we also could not do many things which we have prepared for," said Jimin.

BTS was one of the world's top-grossing touring groups of 2019 by selling 976,283 tickets and garnering $116.6 million during its 2019 Love Yourself Tour, based on a firm fan base established on online communities and social media. The band had prepared another world tour concert this year that is larger in scale but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band successfully held an online concert in June to attract more than 700,000 viewers worldwide. The online concert had opened a new way for other artists who were also not able to hold concerts and meet fans because of the spread of the deadly infectious disease.

"I think we were given an opportunity challenge and fight through helplessness, just as we needed it," Jimin said. RM said that the pandemic has given BTS members not only time to create new music but to deeply think about the band, which is to hold an offline concert in October.
