North Gyeongsang Province said in a statement on August 25 that it would inject 18 billion won ($15 million) into a four-year project to build a demonstration center in Gyeongsan, some 235 kilometers (146 miles) southeast of Seoul, for the development of wireless charging technologies.
The provincial government and Gyeongsan City have cooperated in a wireless power transfer technology project since 2016 to nurture related businesses. Wireless charging uses magnetic waves to charge electrical devices including electric vehicles and smartphones. Because it does not require a physical cable to connect a power source, such a charging method has been adopted by wearable and handheld device makers.
