SEOUL -- AKA, an American artificial intelligence company based in Santa Monica, has partnered with a South Korean middle school to help students engage in non-contact courses for English learning by using an educational robot.

The ability to understand and speak English has long been a prioritized achievement goal for South Korean students. Young students begin their English training from their prep school days to gain high marks in international English tests which would help them in their employment.

AKA AI, the Seoul office of AKA, said in a statement on August 26 that it has worked with Bunjin Middle School in Gimpo, a western satellite city of Seoul, to deploy an AI-based educational robot called "MUSIO" that uses deep learning algorithm technology to recognize the context and situation of conversation. It is capable of communicating with humans based on past conversations.

The school plans to use MUSIO for programs at after-school classes and non-contact classes to help students improve their English speaking skills. Through a joint language education project using AI and robots led by the Ministry of Education, AKA AI has provided an AI-based academic platform for educational institutions.
