SEOUL -- The store price of Samsung Electronics's 110-inch home MicroLED TV was set at a whopping 170 million won ($155,993) in South Korea. Preorders begin this month with its official launch slated for the first quarter of 2021. Samsung promised to consider releasing MicroLED TVs with smaller screens.

Samsung said its 110-inch Micro LED TV used more than eight million RGB LED chips in a 3.3-square-meter area, securing 4K resolution quality. The company said its new TV Installed with a micro AI processor delivers "astonishing color vibrancy and brightness" with self-emissive LED display technology and offers stunning video, audio and smart capabilities.

"As consumers rely on their televisions for more functions than ever, we are incredibly excited to bring the 110-inch MicroLED to the commercial market," Samsung's visual display business head Han Jong-hee said in an online event on December 10. "Samsung MicroLED is going to redefine what premium at-home experiences mean for consumers around the world."

Samsung said the new MicroLED TV used micrometer-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters utilized in conventional displays. "This results in stunning, lifelike colors and accurate brightness from the display’s 4K resolution and 8 million pixels," the company said, adding that the black matrix and bezel have been completely removed, delivering the most immersive content experience.

Consumers can watch up to four sources of content simultaneously on up to 55-inch split screens by connecting multiple external devices. MicroLED is an emerging technology that uses microscopic LEDs. Compared to OLED displays, microLED displays have higher brightness and a wider range of colors. Also, the new LED technology does not have luminance decay issues commonly found on OLED displays.

At CES 2020 in Las Vegas in January, Samsung showcased a new lineup of TVs using its latest microLED technology that features ultra-slim designs and almost no bezels. Samsung said multiple microLED TVs of various sizes can be put together and connected to create new combinations. As it has a higher density than normal LED TVs, microLED TV is suitable for displaying ultra-high-resolution video contents.
