SEOUL -- South Korea's biggest telecom company KT has joined hands with a state railroad construction and management authority to improve management systems and services using big data and information communication technologies.

KT said in a statement on December 24 that the company and the Korea National Railway (KR) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the upgrade of the state railroad management company's operating processes and services. "We will cooperate to develop new service models that would greatly improve customer services as well as strengthen KR's public role," a KT official was quoted as saying.

According to the telecom company, big data and information communication technologies will be used to manage KR's equipment and facilities. New tailor-made customer services will be developed to provide convenience. Work processes will be systemized and simplified.

Big data is commonly utilized by many companies to efficiently manage machines and facilities. Companies can calculate the optimal timing for equipment replacement and predict market demands to control their operation.
