SEOUL -- Kakao Mobility, the mobility service wing of South Korea's web service company Kakao, has partnered with Hanjin, a major domestic logistics service operator, to roll out a parcel delivery service through an all-in-one mobility service app.

Kakao T, an integrated mobility service app operated by Kakao Mobility, provides services such as taxi-hailing, car parking reservations, airplane ticket reservations, and long-distance bus ticket reservations. Kakao T is interlinked with the country's largest smartphone messenger app Kakao Talk with some 45 million monthly active users. Kakao Talk is the virtual hub of Kakao web services. Users can easily access tens of services using the messenger app.

Kakao Mobility said in a statement on July 12 that the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanjin to roll out a platform-based parcel delivery service. Users can order delivery services and track the location of their parcel in real-time using the Kakao T app. About 4,000 won ($3.49) is charged for a package that weighs less than 20 kilograms (44 pounds).

The two companies would develop infrastructure for autonomous parcel delivery vehicles, an artificial intelligence-based parcel delivery management system, and an indoor autonomous delivery robot solution. "We hope that the partnership with Hanjin, the pioneer of South Korea's personalized parcel delivery system, becomes an accelerator for various mobility services offered through Kakao T," Kakao Mobility CEO Ryu Gung-seon was quoted as saying.
