SEOUL -- South Korea's top mobile carrier SK Telecom released a new artificial intelligence assistant speaker that combined a lighting function. Users can order the device in Korean or English to change the color of light depending on the atmosphere.

SK Telecom (SKT) said the new device called "NUGU candle SE" was rolled out through the "11st" online e-commerce platform. Because Amazon's AI agent Alexa is installed, the new device will understand both Korean and English. English speakers can communicate by calling them "Hey Alexa!" The English service will be offered when Amazon updates Alexa software in February 2022. Amazon has teamed up with SKT to allow South Korean customers to purchase its products through 11st.

"A total of 13 different colors will be displayed through the device that costs 109,000 won ($92)," SKT's customer consultant Kim Yu-jung told Aju Business Daily. "Customers can also use other services such as radio, weather forecast and audiobooks," Kim said, adding that the product is a follow-up model of "NUGU Candle," which was released in July 2018. The new product improved the sound quality of NUGU Candle.

"We will try hard to help customers enjoy newer and more extensive experiences with various devices and services equipped with the NUGU AI platform," SKT's AI service platform head Lee Hyun-ah said in a statement on January 18.
