LG said it would incorporate new features based on usage patterns and habits in big data, identify customer needs and pain points, and provide new functions and services that customers need as customized upgrades. Customers can experience home appliances that continue to evolve and make their lives easier. Customers can select and apply upgrades that suit them with a single click.
"Upgradeability challenges the idea that expensive appliances are designed with planned obsolescence in mind," LG's home appliance and air solution division head Lyu Jae-cheol said in an online news conference on January 25. "We want customers to experience the feeling of getting a new washer or refrigerator throughout the entire lifecycle of an LG appliance, not just the first time they bring the item home."
Users can improve the performance of LG's air purifier when a new pet joins the family by upgrading with the pet care filter to more thoroughly filter out pet fur and dander from the air. LG would introduce about 20 upgradable appliances in 2022.
