SEOUL -- LG CNS, the information technology wing of South Korea's LG Group, released a subscription-based security service for operational technology used for controlling and monitoring facilities such as smart factories and power plants. Previously, customers had to pay at least millions of dollars to build a solution for the development and maintenance of security solutions.

Operational technology (OT) is mainly used to operate large-scale facilities such as smart factories and dams using artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. Demands for OT security services have gradually increased due to security vulnerabilities as more OT systems are being exposed to external networks.

LG CNS said during a web-based seminar on January 26 that its new subscription service will help customers detect security vulnerabilities, set up solutions and monitor the systems in real-time. "Through our subscription service model, customers can conveniently use OT security services," LG CNS' security business official Bae Min was quoted as saying.

To improve its OT security service, LG CNS is currently collaborating with Clarity, an Israel-based cybersecurity firm, and domestic companies specializing in the security services such as Samjong KPMG and In The Forest.
