SEOUL -- The artificial intelligence research center of South Korea's LG Group launched an alliance with Google and other companies to create an ecosystem for super-giant AI that can think, learn, and make judgments like humans by learning large-scale data. Super-giant AI is attracting attention as the most important technology in digital transformation.

The Expert AI Alliances groups 13 founding members -- LG AI Research, Google, Elsevier, Shutterstock, VA Corporation, EBS, Woori Bank, two South Korean university hospitals and four LG Group units. Each necessary service will be developed through collaboration, based on LG's super-giant AI called "EXAONE" with a bidirectional data generation capacity that links language and image.

"It is meaningful that we have laid the groundwork for creating a global super-giant AI ecosystem where EXAONE and its partners grow together and innovate business models," LG AI Research head Bae Kyung-hoon said in a statement, vowing to provide a completely new customer experience that has never been seen before.

At an inauguration ceremony on February 22, Bae demonstrated an advanced chatbot model that summarizes content to the level of professional counselors after talking naturally like humans, and deep document understanding (DDU) technology that analyzes and accumulates data on new drugs and new materials quickly and accurately by analyzing not only texts from papers and patents but also visual elements

Google provides a supercomputing cloud service. Google Cloud said it has upgraded EXAONE by introducing its customized machine learning hardware. The two companies would expand their partnership to unveil EXAONE's pre-learning model and accelerate the introduction of EXAONE's AI model in all industries.

Elsevier, a Netherlands-based publishing company specializing in scientific, technical, and medical content, would build a database based on EXAONE. Shutterstock, a New York-based provider of stock photography, stock footage and stock music, would explore the potential of multimodal functions of super-giant AI

LG AI Research would create a higher professional AI model using Elsevier's rich domain knowledge, while expert AI will help researchers create new, cheaper, and more eco-friendly composites.

LG researchers aim to provide various services so that partners can easily and conveniently use super-giant AI. In order to facilitate the development of customized expert AI, they will release 39 application programming interfaces (APIs) sequentially during the first half of 2022. A service platform will be run in the second half of 2022 so that  EXAONE can be easily used on the web even if users do not have expertise in coding or are not an AI developers.
