SEOUL -- Data released by the national statistics office showed that 28.49 million individuals were employed in June 2022, up 841,000 over the same period last year. The number of jobs added in June was the biggest in the same period in the previous 22 years. While the United States added 935,000 jobs in May, the rate of job creation decreased in June.

BTS's album 'Proof' ranked 17th on Billboard's hot albums chart

SEOUL -- BTS's album "Proof", released in June, was ranked 17th in this week's Billboard 200 chart, a weekly chart ranking the 200 most popular albums. The album which wraps up the first chapter of the seven-member band's nine-year career consists of three CDs.

Popular Netflix drama 'Squid Game' wins 14 nominations at Emmy Awards

SEOUL -- Popular Netflix drama "Squid Game" won 14 nominations at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. The thriller drama series became the first South Korean TV program to be nominated for the United States' top TV awards event. The nominations include Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Jung Ho-yeon), and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Oh Yeong-su and Park Hae-soo).

S. Korea adds some 40,260 new COVID-19 cases

SEOUL -- South Korea has added 40,266 new COVID-19 cases, including 398 cases from abroad, on July 13. The number of new cases increased to more than 40,000 cases for the first time in two months after the country has seen a rebound in infected cases due to the spread of a highly infectious omicron variant. The number on Wednesday more than quadrupled from the 19,362 cases reported a week earlier.

7-Eleven starts demonstration of drone delivery service near Seoul

SEOUL -- Targeting vacationers who do not wish to leave their pension to shop for groceries, the South Korean operator of 7-Eleven, a convenience store franchise, has launched a pilot project to demonstrate a drone delivery service in a rural resort town northeast of Seoul on July 13.
 
Delivery services using drones have been demonstrated in South Korea. The first commercial service made its debut in the southern port city of Busan in 2021 when a local service operator used a drone to carry lightweight parcels including SIM cards, medication, and snacks, to a ship anchored about two kilometers from a dock.
