SEOUL -- DL E&C tied up with South Korea's top telecom company KT to develop an advanced digital twin based on a streaming solution for cloud game services and establish a metaverse ecosystem. Metaverse solutions can be applied in various construction fields such as design, construction, and quality management.

A digital twin is a virtual clone of an object or an infrastructure. Digital twins are frequently used as testing grounds for new technologies or other elements to find out the results of real-life situations simulated in a virtual space. Business operators can test their products under various conditions without causing an irreversible effect in real life.

KT's cloud-based game streaming solution was used for DL E&C's real-time virtual visualization solution called "D.Virtual." It is difficult to implement high-definition virtual reality in low-end devices, but D.Virtual removes restrictions on device specifications.

"DL E&C has continued to make efforts to provide a new level of experience beyond time and space constraints in the construction sector and provide an advanced customer service," Choi Young-rak, head of DL E&C's housing technology development center, said in a statement on September 2. "We will continue to be the industry's top position in smart architecture through active technology exchanges with KT."

DL E&C said that D.Virtual realizes more advanced graphics technology than 3D virtual reality. When introduced into the cyber model house, interior materials, finishes, and furniture options can be simulated in real time in the virtual space as consumers want. The builder said more than one million options can be combined through D.Virtual.

KT's technology will allow customers to enjoy D.Virtual smoothly in various device environments and conveniently implement graphics that are close to actual images without delays.

KT would apply its solution at construction sites to help check a 3D blueprint with a tablet PC. Construction companies can increase productivity by reducing construction and maintenance costs. "We will make efforts to further grow the digital twin market by utilizing our next-generation streaming solution," said KT's customer digital transformation division head Park Jung-ho.

In cooperation with Constru, a computer vision and AI company in Israel, DL E&C has introduced "D.Vision," a field management solution using AI-based computer vision technology and 360-degree cameras, to improve the quality of construction sites and maximize the efficiency of process status management.
