Spotify said in a statement that the rapper was selected for this year's RADAR KOREA, a program designed to nurture emerging global artists. Along with financial support, the global streaming service operator will promote the South Korean artist in online and offline spaces.
"I'm excited to be able to connect with listeners around the world and introduce my own colors and music as an artist through Spotify's RADAR program," said Huh. The artist who gained popularity through Show Me the Money 11 is has signed an exclusive contract with Amoeba Culture, a record label created by Dynamic Duo, a popular two-man hip-hop band.
South Korean hip-hop songs have garnered explosive popularity on Spotify. During a 12-month period between August 2021 and July 2022, a playlist comprised of South Korean hip-hop songs was streamed more than 20 million times. The number of song streams increased by 56 percent from five years ago.
Hip-hop has become a mainstream culture in South Korea since the early 2010s when artists such as Mad Clown, BewhY and SUPERBEE received attention through Show Me The Money. AOMG in 2013, a hip-hop label founded by Korean-American rapper Jay Park, has one of the strongest lineups of artists in South Korea's thriving hip-hop scene. In August 2021, the label held a non-face-to-face extended reality (XR) concert for global hip-hop fans amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
