SEOUL, April 16 (AJU PRESS) - HD Hyundai Energy Solutions, the solar power subsidiary of HD Hyundai, has installed rooftop solar panels on facilities owned by food company CJ CheilJedang. This move comes in response to the growing demand from businesses aiming to achieve carbon neutrality. The energy solutions firm plans to further expand its solar initiatives by utilizing previously unused spaces.
Across South Korea, companies are increasingly embracing the use of idle areas like rooftops and parking lots for solar power generation. This strategy eliminates the need for additional land acquisition and aligns with their commitments to RE100, a global initiative promoting the transition to 100 percent renewable electricity.
On Monday, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions announced the completion of solar power installations on the rooftops of two CJ CheilJedang plants in South Korea. These facilities have the combined capacity to generate 3.5 gigawatts of electricity annually, leading to a projected reduction of 1,607 tons of carbon emissions.
Previously, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions constructed a solar power plant utilizing rooftops and parking lots at the HD Hyundai Infracore factory in Incheon. This plant boasts a generation capacity of 1.3 gigawatts of renewable energy per year, translating to an estimated reduction of 600 tons of carbon emissions.
South Korea is actively transforming various infrastructures into eco-friendly power sources to promote sustainability and optimize space utilization. In January 2021, a solar power plant was installed on Olympic-daero, a major expressway in Seoul. Additionally, Seoul City offers subsidies to incentivize buildings and homeowners to install solar panels on rooftops and walls.
