SEOUL, May 09 (AJU PRESS) - An event to promote gimbap, one of Korea's most popular on-the-go meals, was held at COEX in southern Seoul on Thursday. The event was held as part of the Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF), which runs until Sunday. The expo offers various tourism information at home and overseas.

Hundreds of people including foreign dignitaries, tourism officials, chefs and gourmets gathered for the occasion.

Renowned chef Kim Rock-hoon, who has been promoting the handy meal since the early 2010s, demonstrated a 10-meter-long version of gimbap blended with local staple specialties from across the country. Kim said, "It is honor to present this supersized gimbap, once considered a comfort dish among many Koreans."

After taking a bite of the delicacy, Greek Ambassador to Korea Ekaterini Loupas who attended the event said, "It's important to let people know about healthy foods."

Gretta Caretta, a visitor from Lithuania said "I'm so glad to be here as it motivated me to know more about Korea."

Gimbap is a delicious rice roll filled with a mixture of seasoned vegetables, eggs and other ingredients, all neatly wrapped with dried sheets of seaweed and served in bite-sized slices. The popular takeaway meal has been recently gaining traction in the U.S., as its frozen version has captivated American tastes shortly after hitting the shelves of grocery chain Trader Joe's.
